I didn’t catch any preseason games, but this feels like a solid blueprint for tough away nights in Europe. Re the formation - it was used (more or less) in the first proper friendly of the summer, a 1-0 win over Real Betis. Elliott and Szoboszlai were the front two on that occasion.
I seem to recall Slot saying he set the team up that way simply because they didn’t have an available centre forward, rather than for any tactical planning reason. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see it again now though, considering how well it worked at the Etihad.
And on the 2-0s, two more equals the Premier League era record. It feels very achievable for this side.
