Personally I wish Trent all the very best for the rest of the season then simply wish no harm for the rest of his career elsewhere as we then focus all our attention on the 11 in Red. Great great player, personally I absolutely love him, local lad who has been integral to us winning the “fucken lot” but I can understand the lure of Madrid as we all back the lure of Anfield for our new signings from elsewhere. Now let’s all focus and go and win this league, UTFR
I won't hold any ill-will towards Trent. Players come and go, it's inevitable.
Equally, he is turning his back on eternal adoration from 'his people'. I wouldn't be surprised if he were booed if Liverpool played Madrid next season, for instance. He won't ever be warmly welcomed back across the board. Can't leave for Real and expect to be loved, that's how it goes.
Be interesting to see what if anything happens with Trent’s mural, I’m expecting a replacement over the summer if honest. Arne with the league trophy would be nice
You captured my sentiment as well. I've got no ill will & grateful for his contributions to the best Reds side I've ever seen. But he's choosing to go to our biggest competitor, save City. He'd rather be the 5th biggest star on the richest club, a glamor club vs. captain his boyhood club to beat them to more UCLs. It's hard to admire that choice.
Re fifth biggest star - yeah, the idea he's going there to win the Ballon d'Or seems fanciful at best, deluded at worst. You're going to outshine Mbappe, Vini, Bellingham etc? Good luck!
The knock-on effect on Mo will be interesting to watch. Conor will under and over lap more which may aid Mo in attacking (vs. longer passes from Alexander-Arnold). Does this under/overlapping help Mo buy a yard more readily as his quickness diminishes?
It's going to be fascinating to see what happens. I wonder if, for instance, Bradley will be told to get the ball to, say, Gravenberch for the long balls forward in Salah's direction, or will he be encouraged to carry it forward for a one-two with Szoboszlai, or perhaps give it to Dom for a pass to Mo.
There's obviously all sorts of ways to play it - once it's clearer who is definitely staying and going, I'll probably watch some games back for an article. There have only been six games in which Bradley and Salah played more than just over an hour together, so it will be good to remind myself how they played off each other in those matches.
Agree ... we're likely to see much more combination play to progress. Slower than one direct pass but not slow. Might be more suited to Arne's preferred tactics.
Beyond progression, Conor seems to have good instincts in the final sequence of an attack. Not backed up by the data but the 2 one-touch assists were impressive (to Macca for his goal vs Real Madrid & to Dom for his goal vs. Spurs in EFL Cup semi).
Yes it's a pity data on touches by assist providers and goal scorers is not more readily available. And good point about the Spurs assist, as that showed he can be comfortable centrally if unlikely to become a full-blown inverted full-back.
A good timely read. A more offensive right back will have a knock onto the recruitment of the incoming left back. It all now depends on how the club view Bradley. Is his ceiling sufficiently high not to invest in another full back? It would help if the funds could be saved for elsewhere in the team as we have a lot to do this summer.
My assumption is Bradley will get the gig for now because funds are needed elsewhere, as you say. I guess maybe they would review that if he doesn't live up to expectation next season, but I think they have to give him the chance based on what he's shown so far.
True. He is injury prone though so they need to have a fall back for when he gets injured. I'm not sure if Quansah offers enough as right back to fill that role, assuming Quansah himself stays with us.
No, Quansah feels very 'can do a job if required' in the position, nothing more. I think Gomez has been better there at times than perhaps his reputation suggests but of course his injury record means he can't be relied upon either.
